Advice on when to change the cam belt on a peugeot 206?

Can anyone please advise me on when i should change the cam belt on my X reg (2000) peugeot 206? It's coming up to 54,000 on the clock and don't seem to able to find the definitive answer anywhere.|||Any Peugeot main dealer will tell you exactly what the manufacturers recommended frequency is.

Whatever it is, halve the mileage for total safety (Haynes recommendation).|||if unsure . i'd change it|||usually around 70K miles(don't know kilometers, sorry)also visually inspect the belt for glazing(shiny), cracking, and tension.

Lastly, get a repair manual. You're going to need it to do this job and for other things as well. They're cheap.|||Usually 60 to 70,000 miles is about average but you need to check the repair manual or ask them at the dealer,|||Better sooner than later.|||It depends on if it is an interference engine or not. I don't know your car but the reason is, if the belt breaks on a free wheeling engine, you need a tow is all. If the belt breaks on an interference engine you need a tow and maybe valves and pistons because of damage.

I just found this web page explanation of an interference engine and it's the best info I found.

Yours is not listed as interference so you don't have to change it but if it breaks than you will need a tow and a new belt put in. I wouldn't change it.
